This site is part of Staple Hill & District Allotments Ltd and is the larger of the two sites.
The main entrance is on Chestnut Road, Downend by the COOP it comprises of 132 full plots many of which are divided in half. It benefits from mains water with toilet facilities. There is an active Shop for plot holders only and recent projects include work to the road and work on the entrance.
A friendly site with a site BBQ each year.

Not much is known about the history of the site but it is unlikely to have been built on at any time as Downend was originally a scattered hamlet of small farms and market gardens in the parish of Mangotsfield South Gloucestershire.
Downend is now a bustling suburb of Bristol and the survival of such a large allotment site is remarkable. The land is leased from South Gloucestershire Council on a 25 year lease. The site is run by an elected committee and the stewards are responsible for the day to day running of the sites. Volunteers can be called for to help with projects that are underway on the site. A great deal of work has been done in the last couple of years to restore the land on the site and provide greater security.
